THE INSTALLATION
An old cloth-bound book is positioned on a plinth in the middle of the gallery space, illumined by a single light source from above. The book's pages are blank. As the viewer opens the book, a video projection is activated and illumines the darkened gallery wall. The projection changes as the pages of the book are turned. The pages projected consist of video pieces by artists from all over the world. Thus an analog technology is used to access a digital technology. The images are dark, mysterious, threatening. They represent an alternate interpretation of history.
Each artist will have a full page in the book. A motion sensor will be attached to each page, and once the user turns the page, the sensor will detect the motion and send a command to a computer which will call the respective video which will then be projected.
